What is the origin of this religion? When/How/Why did it start?
Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama 2500 years ago. when he was born, a fortune-teller predicted that he would become a holy man. Siddhartha livied in the forest for six years with five friends one day he went and sat under a bodhi tree and meditated. Under this fig tree, Suddhartha found enlightenment and after this he was known as buddha-the Awakened one.

The teaching of buddha revolve around the Four Noble Truths
1 The world is full of suffering.
2 Suffering is caused by greed and desire
3 The way to escape suffering is by giving up desire and greed, to reach bibbana (or nivana in sanskrit).
4 Nibbana is achieved by following the Eightfold path.
